Nearly into Post Production

Finally. I have my interviews with UW's Carole Terry and PLU's Paul Tegels and David Joyner done. I missed the chappel this morning, so I will go back on Wednesday and shoot that, but otherwise I think Pull Stops is officially into post production. Thank you to everyone for clearing your schedule to work around this project.
I am very happy to have the end figured out. With Profs. Terry, Tegels and Joyner I have a clear Pacific Northwest finish which should be visually interesting and unique. And since we are talking about pipe organs... interesting and unique are essential.

Sorry I have been busy

It has been quite crazy the last two months. Now I find myself looking at February realizing I haven't entered a new post for 5 weeks. I had to go into a 3rd printing on the HTLC DVD sets. I will be deleting the bulk of the files very soon now. I am quite pleased at the response to the DVD so far. I didn't really expect to print more than one batch of them... but three! O. M. Goodness. There are lots of folks who like organ music. 

Today I have been complaining about the weather. I am moving back to Montana if I am going to have to deal with snow in February it is going to be somewhere where I expect to. Not the Puget Sound. This is really getting old. Please don't talk to me about Global Warming, I will accuse you of drinking the cool-aid of that hog wash. I pray for Global Warming. If I thought I could warm it up a bit by buying an SUV, I would. I still remember being taught about the coming ice age when I was a third grader. It didn't come. Neither will this GW BS. These are just natural cycles of the earth. Sort of like the waist line in my pants: Sometimes it is bigger than others, but I am not going to explode, nor will I blow away!

OK, no more venting. 

I really only have two more interviews to complete before I am into full time post production on the Pull Stops documentary. I am having a hard time getting dates firmed up with PLU and UW professors which will complete my project. If anyone knows Carole Terry or Paul Tegels, please have them make time for me so that I can put an end to this madness.

One Down---One to go.

I am so glad to have the Holy Trinity DVD done. It went into a second printing almost right away. And it may drift slowly into a third. I only have about 20% of the 2nd printing left. I have really been lazy the last few days. One rip and burn DVD for a friend's wedding. And I have one more favor in post-production that I promised (but I haven't even started). It should go quite quickly, just a two camera Christmas production for the elementary school. Five or six hours max. 

I have been spending most of my time writing web content for my wife's site www.lykoslight.com there isn't anything published yet, but it will be her wedding and family videography site. 

Paramount Seattle Mighty Wurlitzer

Yesterday I went to the Paramount to shot Dennis James playing the Mighty Wurlitzer for the silent film The Hunchback of Notre Dame. It was the most interesting shot so far in the Pull Stops project. 

Evidently there was some mis-communication between the parties involved. This resulted in the crew sitting around for 3 hours waiting to capture what will amount to 2-3 minutes for the project.  

If anyone wants to do a feature on the Wurlitzer and Silent Films Dennis James, is your subject matter expert. He is an amazing and gifted performer, and I only watched him play one piece of music. I am certain he makes the Trader Joe's Monday Night at the Silent Movies a magical experience. Abracadabra! at least the shot is over and in the bucket.

Ok! Finally

I am packaging the first run of the 2-DVD sets right now. It looks like I will already have to go to a second printing of the Holy Trinity Project. Since it occupies about 500GB on our system, this project will be available only for a short time (until I need the space...) I will make as many copies of it as I need to right now, but afterwards, I will not be able to create new master discs.  

Disc one is the Dedication Ceremony with two special features. The first special feature is of organ builder Rich Swanson during final assembly of the organ. It runs about 10 minutes. The second feature is of local organ builder Martin Pasi making a pipe. This feature-ette runs about 15 minutes. 

Disc two is the recital given by David Kriewall the same day. This feature-length recital is quite interesting with lots of close up shots of David's hands and feet while he masters the new organ. We also used some of the shots from the Pasi feature on Disc one which shows a pipe being made. Disc two also has two small features. One is the Getting Started music video which is also hosted on youtube and linked to an earlier post of mine. The second is an outtake from the concert when the Pastor mistakenly stopped the concert thinking it was over. Dave gently reminded Pastor there were still two pieces to go.... it got quite a laugh. At the Pastor's request, we cut it from the concert feature, but we didn't want it to end up on the cutting room floor, so it is yours to enjoy.

Done with HTLC Project

Or at least I think I am. I am burning a sample of each disc to screen for any technical stuff. Otherwise, it is in the can. Disc one has the Dedication Ceremony and two special features. Watching Martin Pasi build a pipe and Watching Rich Swanson put together the HTLC pipe organ. Disc two is the recital by Dave Kriewall and it also has two special features: a short outtake of the recital and Getting Started, a re-edited version of the music video I posted a few days ago.

That also comes just in time for restarting the Pull Stops project. I have a shot at Seattle Paramount watching the organist there practice for the black and white silent film "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" showing on Monday Jan 5. 

That will be a busy day. The kids' thrice cancelled Christmas Program at school is also Monday. I will have to do well in Seattle Traffic to make it in time... especially since I am the chauffeur.

Studio Time

Sorry I haven't been updating you for the last couple days. I am rushing to hit a deadline on the Holy Trinity Pipe Organ project. I am a couple days from putting it to bed. Stay tuned.
